*sigh* I love my horror movies, but they have so many problems. The Evil = Crazy trope is just the tip of the iceberg. I loved 10 Cloverfield Lane, and I didn't think of John Goodman's character as anything more complicated than Misogynistic Jerk Who Cannot See Lady-Type As Real Person, but Wiswell's interpretation is valid. I am thrilled to find someone else who hated Don't Breathe though. Ugh, that movie pissed me off.
Cautious recommendation: Hush. Home invasion movie where the protagonist is deaf and kicks the intruders' asses. I haven't seen it yet myself, but I've heard many good things. It's on Netflix. Also, if you haven't seen Stoker yet, that movie is disturbing and wonderful. Although I say that as someone who is comfortable identifying with "villains" (if you can even call this character a villain--it's complicated). (My icon is a screenshot from it.)
I've the Saunders piece before, and I loved it! I've noticed that I exhibit a lot of "symptoms" (characteristics might be a better word?) associated with various things--OCD, Aspbergers, depression/anxiety--without ever being officially diagnosed. I've taken a few online assessment tests and tend to score somewhere in the low 30s, but I don't know how similar those are to the official ones. Diagnoses cost money, y'know? But that's why I'm grateful for articles like this--and for bloggers like you who share them.
